Through its unique virtual ip|engine concept, the Ipanema System can deliver application visibility, QoS and control to sites that do not need physical ip|engines or even client software. The benefits are very rapid deployment with much lower acquisition and management costs than competitor products that require hardware or software at every site.

Virtual ip|engines are implemented through software agents that are automatically made available on the different physical ip|engines according to the traffic topology. The virtual ip|engines operate cooperatively to manage traffic mesh situations.

WAN optimization features like redundancy elimination and application acceleration as well as dynamic WAN selection require the branch to be equipped with a physical ip|engine.
